Show or Hide Desktop Icons
Want to hide all of your desktop icons maybe to view something in your desktop background or did you accidentally make them disappear and don't know how to bring them back?
To Hide Desktop Icons:
1. Right-click on the desktop, then select Arrange Icons By.
2. Uncheck by clicking Show Desktop Icons.
Abracadabra! Watch them magically vanish before your very eyes. Don't panic. You can bring them back by doing the opposite.
To Show Desktop Icons:
1. Right-click on the desktop, the select Arrange Icons By.
2. Check by clicking Show Desktop Icons.
Whew! They're back. I use this sometimes when I want to view all of my desktop background or if I don't want someone in my household to accidentally mess up the way I have my icons arranged.

Avira AntiVir Personal
Avira AntiVir Personal is an antivirus program you can install to your computer for free. Did you know your computer can get sick? Did you know it could be infected so badly, it could possibly shut down and never be heard from again? Don't ever get online without protection from viruses coming in to your computer and wiping out everything you have that you hold dear to your heart.
I know, I know. What kind of crazy lunatics do we have out there who are just trying to make our lives more difficult? In my opinion, it's the same people who don't have anything to do but sit around, drink beer and hack into somebody's computer until they've destroyed it. Well my friends, these threats are real unfortunately. But you can protect your precious files from being infected.
Download your free copy of Avira AntiVir Personal today. This is an excellent but basic program to keep unwanted viruses, worms, trojans and dialers out of your computer. A couple of drawbacks are updates can only be downloaded every 24 hours and when you are updating, you get a big annoying pop-up window that you can upgrade the program to if you choose to do so. Other than that, it's a decent piece of software.
Try it out here and have a safe and fulfilling internet experience. I rate it a 4 out of 5 stars for basic protection.

Defragmenting
Defragment or defrag is a computer term meaning something sort of like putting the pieces of the puzzle back together again.
What happens over time, when deleting files, moving files, uninstalling and installing programs, as well as many other reasons, your hard drive gets fragmented. This means that pieces of your files have been split up or scattered over the hard drive taking it longer to search for and execute the complete files.
Watch the video below which shows you how to defrag your hard drive. And be patient, some hard drives, depending on the size may take hours. A good time to run it would be at night before you go to bed or any other time you wouldn't use your computer for a long period of time.
For an alternative disk defragment program which I think did a better job for my system than what comes with Windows is AusLogics Disk Defrag and is totally free.
