Did you know your computer can get sick? Did you know it could be infected so badly, it could possibly shut down and never be heard from again? Don't ever get online without protection from viruses coming in to your computer and wiping out everything you have that you hold dear to your heart.<br /><br />I know, I know. What kind of crazy lunatics do we have out there who are just trying to make our lives more difficult? In my opinion, it's the same people who don't have anything to do but sit around, drink beer and hack into somebody's computer until they've destroyed it. Well my friends, these threats are real unfortunately. But you can protect your precious files from being infected.<br /><br />Download your free copy of </span><a href="http://www.free-av.de/"><strong><span style="font-size:130%;">Avira AntiVir Personal</span></strong></a><span style="font-size:130%;"> today. This is an excellent but basic program to keep unwanted viruses, worms, trojans and dialers out of your computer. A couple of drawbacks are updates can only be downloaded every 24 hours and when you are updating, you get a big annoying pop-up window that you can upgrade the program to if you choose to do so. Other than that, it's a decent piece of software.<br /><br />Try it out </span><a href="http://www.free-av.de/en/download/1/download_avira_antivir_personal__free_antivirus.html"><span style="font-size:130%;">here</span></a><span style="font-size:130%;"> and have a safe and fulfilling internet experience. You can choose to delete some or all of the files. To begin, do these four simple steps:</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;">1. Click <em>Start</em>, click <em>All Programs</em>, look for <em>Accessories</em>, move over from there to <em>System Tools</em>, then move over and click <em>Disk Cleanup</em>.</span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;">(Or you can Click <em>Start</em>, then click <em>Run</em>. Type in <strong><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">cleanmgr</span></strong> and click <em>OK</em>.)</span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;">2. Select the drive-letter for the current Windows installation and then click <em>OK.</em></span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;">3. Select Temporary Internet Files and any others you wish to cleanup, click <em>OK</em>.</span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;">4. Click <em>Yes</em> to confirm deletion.</span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;">There is a program I recommend called <a href="http://www.ccleaner.com/"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">CCleaner</span></a> that pretty much does a better job than disk cleanup in my opinion and it has more features as well. You can get this software absolutely free. It's very easy to use. Additional RAM added to your computer will work with more information at the same time which can have a dramatic effect on total system performance. For example, when I first purchased my computer, it only had 256 MB of RAM. A lot of times I found my PC freezing up when I was running more demand software. When I installed another 512 MB of RAM which gave me a total of 768 MB, I had no issues of freezing or crashing of my computer.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;">Each motherboard supports only a certain range of memory types in certain combinations so always check with your motherboard manufacturer before making a purchase. </span><br /><p><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;">A standard module or stick of memory is long and thin. On the bottom of the module is one or more notches and is usually lined with gold-plated connectors so that proper installation to the slots on the motherboard can be performed.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;">Memory modules come with various storage capabilities. You can purchase them in 256MB, 512MB, 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB sizes. I've now seen new personal computers come out with 6GB and now 8GB sizes but personally I think the maximum 4GB size is plenty enough memory for just about anybody.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;"><em><strong><a href="http://www.crucial.com/">Crucial technology</a></strong></em> is where I purchased my last memory module and is a very thorough site. You can also have your computer scanned by them to determine how many slots, memory currently installed, motherboard type, and more needed information. After the scan, it also recommends the correct type of memory to install.</span></span></p>Stevehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00226813710791061430noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8546324836640299351.post-68472490764021659122008-10-09T22:06:00.000-04:002008-11-16T22:55:19.761-05:00Free Anti-Spyware Software<span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"><span style="font-size:130%;">Looking for ways to keep <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">spyware</span>/<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">malware</span> out of your computer? <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Spyware</span> tracks your surfing behavior and puts these unwanted programs on your computer without you even knowing it. Getting frustrated with the mess? Well I have a solution. Get organized. What I mean is, create folders on your desktop in specific categories. Here's an example, if you have a lot of unused desktop icons on your screen, here are the steps to create that folder.</span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;">1. <em>Right click</em> on a blank space on the screen above the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">taskbar</span></span>.</span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;">2. Scroll down to <strong>New</strong> and go right and <em>left</em> <em>click</em> on <strong>Folder</strong>.</span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;">You should now have a folder on the desktop labeled New Folder. See, that was easy wasn't it? Now you can hold down the <em>left click</em> on your mouse on whatever icon and/or icons you want to clean off your desktop and drag them to the <strong>New Folder</strong> icon you just created. See? Gone. If you want to get to those icons you just put in there, you will now have to double click on the <strong>New Folder</strong> icon to get to them.</span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;">If you need to rename the <strong>New Folder</strong> icon to a different name, then do these steps.</span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;">1. <em>Right click</em> on <strong>New folder</strong> icon.</span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;">2. Scroll down and <em>left click</em> on <strong>Rename</strong>.</span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;">3. Then type in whatever you wish and hit the <strong><em>Enter</em></strong> key.</span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;font-size:130%;">You're all done. If you want to add more icons to your desktop, then go back to the beginning steps and do it all over again. Hope this was helpful.</span>Stevehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00226813710791061430noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8546324836640299351.post-23792295477278741292008-10-04T01:20:00.001-04:002008-11-16T22:56:19.117-05:00Digital Cameras<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253173904290238274" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLEySXaE_aUdvfsxUDgESw4A70_ogBh1Gz8wPuavfSG8zSvl_Rf_plUZPhe7otUGNubX_whyphenhyphenHZBALdTKS8u2hY1sCICQ9b_HQrKjc6ldDWlLDERZ8ke-ROp36yzjxRfja_1YrVHYg4cNE/s320/33724726_125.jpg" border="0" /><div><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;">I purchased the Cannon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Camera before my vacation this year. It takes a lot of nice pictures. This camera came with a 32 MB SD memory card but I recommend purchasing a 1 GB or higher memory card to take more photos. We took just about 500 pictures when we went to </span><a href="http://mydisneyworldvacation.blogspot.com/"><em><strong><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;">Walt Disney World</span></strong></em></a><span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;">. I didn't have time to go over all of the features it had built into the camera before our vacation. The LCD has a 2.5 inch screen and is easy to view. It comes with a lithium ion battery and has an external battery charger which can be plugged directly into an outlet for charging. The battery lasts a good hour or so but I suggest keeping the power off when not in use because the LCD uses up a lot of power. All in all, I recommend this camera for taking great pictures. Well, I think </span><a href="http://audacity.sourceforge.net/"><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;color:#ff6600;"><em><strong>Audacity</strong></em></span></a><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;"> is one of the best by far. And it's free. You can edit Ogg Vorbis, MP3, WAV or AIFF sound files. Record live audio from your computer or your microphone. Cut, edit, duplicate or mix sounds together. And the effects on here are also incredible to work with. You can speed up music or slow it down, change the pitch, remove noise (from tapes and records for example), add echo effects and a whole lot more. Check it out at </span><a href="http://audacity.sourceforge.net/"><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;color:#ff6600;"><em><strong>audacity.sourceforge.net</strong></em></span></a><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:130%;"> for more details. This is a great program.
